I am an adventurer, a student, a developing strength athlete, and a writer.
I love adventures. Some of them will be great and noteworthy of tales over drinks, while others won’t be. Go on them anyway, a bad adventure is better than just sitting around staring into a screen. Life is made for the living and for me that involves closing the computer and getting outside.
My sense of adventure has always revolved around this quote from Paul Bowles’s The Sheltering Sky.
“Death is always on the way, but the fact that you don’t know when it will arrive seems to take away from the finiteness of life. It’s that terrible precision that we hate so much. But because we don’t know, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that’s so deeply a part of your being that you can’t even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.”
Some of my favorite adventures have been to:
I am a student at a Massachusetts state school where I study computer science under the advisement of my mentors Dr. David B. Adams and Dr. Brian O’Donnell. Prior to returning to school, I earned a degree in Communications and worked for a few years. Wanting a career change, I started taking a night class in C programming and after finishing the two-part series I enrolled full time in the spring of 2014.
Some of my academic interests are:
- Data Structures
- Discrete Mathematics
I am passionate about strength training and conditioning, which I refer to as being an athlete. Currently I am training in a powerlifting style but also mix in body weight exercises, sled dragging, throwing objects, and jumping. I would like to transition into strongman training once I get a job. I as well enjoy training in muay-thai, boxing and grappling. Outside of the gym I enjoy cooking which started as a way to improve my athletics and save money. Foods which I once despised like kale, broccoli, cauliflower are now some of my favorite foods to have with some type of lean meat often poultry.
I enjoy writing. Whether it is in my journal, blog, to my pen pal or just putting thoughts down on unruled paper or a whiteboard there is something magical about watching thought become words. Through refinement these words form sentences which compose paragraphs.
